Home Gardening - Rooting our Health in the Earth

Home Gardening - Vegetables and Fruits

If you have not had the pleasure of home gardening and producing your own vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, and superfoods, then I sincerely hope that this article will inspire you to do so, for in gardening we have a precious and mystical opportunity to share our being with the life giving properties of the Earth and produce an abundance of vital foods. If you are already a gardener, then this article can help you to deepen this practice.

The Importance of Living Top Soil

In order to get a sense of these life giving properties, it is important to first understand the dynamics of the topsoil. The topsoil is the uppermost layer of the soil and is generally teeming with microorganisms and organic matter.

This type of topsoil is incredibly vital and alive. It gives the living plants the nutrients they need to grow and flourish through their roots and supplies them with a continuous stream of life supporting elements. Through home gardening we get to directly participate in connecting to this rich living soil and witness first hand the power that it holds.

On the other hand, there are unfortunately areas of topsoil that have been so stripped of microorganisms and organic matter, due to various factors such as pesticides, herbicides, clear-cutting, compaction from animal grazing, and soil run off from rain and wind, that these areas of soil are no longer vital and able to support healthy plant growth.

In the coming years it will be of utmost importance to protect the remaining levels of topsoil and even to increase them as much as possible.

Connecting to the Earth's Living Energies

Once we have an intuitive grasp of the creative life processes of soil, we can then begin to apply and deepen this understanding when we are home gardening. After a place has been chosen for the garden, we can begin to imagine and then feel that this area is infused with energy and potential for growth. A garden then becomes a sacred space where deep communion with the dynamic energetic systems of the living Earth can be attained every day.

Over the years, the increased connection to the Earth through gardening can become a catalyst for connecting to the living energies of the living Earth in all moments.

The late Edward Szekely was a pioneer in researching the potentials for connecting to the Earth through home gardening and live foods.

He went into great detail about the powerful force held by growing plants and how we can consciously interact with this force to increase our health, joy, and meaningful awareness of being a part of the Earth community. The process he describes is to put our hands around plants as they are growing in the soil. He found young wheatgrass to be one of the most powerful transmitters of energy. By doing this we can share in the bio-photons that are being emitted by these plants.

Of course another way to share in this bio-photonic energy is to ingest the living plants when they are ripe and ready. This is another means that the life energies are imparted into our system and help harmonize it with the larger planetary system, of which we are an integral part. Also, a home garden will produce an abundance of rich compost, which can be given back to the Earth for its regeneration.

A Solar Powered Superfood Garden

Many of the superfoods described on this site can be produced by home gardening through an amazing new technology that will revolutionize food production and possibly even help feed millions of humans who are starving for food. This technology is geodesic solar powered greenhouses.

These off the grid sun powered domes can produce and maintain a home garden all year long. In fact, certain solar greenhouses can continue to produce edible plants even in sub-zero temperatures (1)! Through a temperature controlled monitoring system, these amazing domes can keep a mini eco-system stable and thriving.

Now imagine this: you could be growing chocolate in your backyard! By setting the temperature in the greenhouse to match the needs of certain plants people can now grow exotic superfoods anywhere.

Other superfoods that could be grown in the solar dome are goji berries, aloe vera, acai, and inca berries. It is certainly beneficial to support organic farmers from around the world, however, producing them at our home is another means to support the health of the planet and our bodies.

Living Cycles

I hope it has become increasing clear how home gardening can have enormous potential for transforming our consciousness into alignment with the Earth and provide an astounding array of nourishing foods. By participating in this grounding (literally) exercise a cycle is born of creation, nourishment, gratitude, and reciprocation.
