Superfood Supplements

It is wise of any consumer to do research on any supplements they buy, such as superfood supplements. My goal here is to provide you with the research I have found on specific supplements as well as share my personal experiences with the products. It is nice to have pure scientific research, however, I find it also beneficial to hear unbiased first hand reviews from consumers.

The superfood supplements that I will cover in the links below are the most health generating supplements that I have come across thus far. As always, I am providing this information as food for thought and then it is up to you whether you feel called to try these supplements or not.

In the nutritional health field there are vigorous debates about whether supplements are truly necessary. One side of the debate claims that whole foods are enough in themselves and that supplements are just marketing ploys to trick people into buying unnecessary products. The opposite side of the debate claims that supplements are essential and should be consumed regularly. Let's explore this debate in more detail so that we can have a well rounded perspective.

Food as food or food as supplements?

As an integral nutritionist my answer is both! Food in its whole, natural, unprocessed form is the backbone of a healthy diet and where most attention should be placed. However, food in supplemental form also has a very beneficial role if used carefully and wisely. For instance, they can heal chronic nutritional deficiencies and even save a life!

An example of supplements life saving potential is with infants who have developed scurvy due to the consumption of pasteurized bottled milk. Pasteurization is known to destroy Vitamin C, which is needed to prevent scurvy. By consuming supplemental Vitamin C this potentially fatal disease can be overcome.

The third camp in the supplements debate is the centrists, which is where I stand, who look at the good and bad of both sides of the debate rather than simply pointing out one side of the story and neglecting the other.

For instance, one side often makes the claim that some superfood supplements are not backed up by research and could be a scam. Likewise, the other side often says that some modern diets do not meet all nutritional requirements and therefore supplements are needed. While both of those points are true, to be extreme in our words by saying we should never take supplements or that supplements are always required lacks critical thinking.

To me, an integrative and holistic approach seems the most rational and effective. My own story may shed insight on this. Growing up in Seattle Washington, my diet was the typical Standard American Diet (S.A.D.) of highly processed foods and highly acidic foods, with minimal attention given to whole, fresh, organic foods. I also did not drink much water. In fact, as a child I can hardly remember drinking any water! It seems all I drank was cola and sugary fruit juices.

This led to my body living in a constant state of acidity and experiencing the consequent symptoms of ill health. As I became more aware of health in my twenties, I decided to try and re-alkalize my body. I did this by consuming large quantities of fresh fruits and vegetables.

This was effective, however, I was testing my pH levels and still not reaching the place I was desiring. The long term effects of the my poor diet seemed to ask of me that I supply an extra boost of nutritional potency to get me where I wanted to be.

I decided I should do more research and eventually I started to experiment with consuming a liquid zeolite supplement, which has been scientifically proven to balance pH levels in the body (more detail is given on liquid zeolite in the link below). The combination of whole, fresh fruits and vegetables and the superfood supplement liquid zeolite eventually brought me to a place of slight overall alkalinity, which is the ideal state for health.

The insight in this story is that both measures, whole foods and superfood supplements, were effective in helping my condition. Now it could be argued that if I had just stuck to an alkalizing diet for longer that I would have reached ideal pH levels, and I agree. The point is that the supplement was also effective. I may have not needed it, but it sure helped.

The overall message of this article is that the superfood supplements below are not essential, however, they can be very beneficial. I have certainly found that to be true in my life, and I hope that you may benefit from them as well.
